12 Beach Road, Newquay

12 Beach Road is still a fairly new restaurant to Newquay, having originally opened as Barefoot on the Beach on the old Chy Bar site. They have just undergone rebranding to 12 Beach Road, but it’s still the same great team and service. When they initially moved in, they completely refurbished the building to have a downstairs dining and bar area, an outside patio with tables and more seating for the restaurant upstairs.  By chance we were actually the first people to dine in the restaurant when they opened up to the public. The waitress left us a lovely note on our receipt and our experience of their customer service has been just as cheerful and welcoming ever since.

They have spectacular views over Towan Beach and the ocean, in the summer the patio fills up fast as people rush to take in the gorgeous sea views. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a beer or a cocktail whilst watching the surfers catch a wave. They have a really well thought out menu, providing a large variety of options which makes it the perfect option for larger groups and they cater for all dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, dairy free and gluten free.

At 12 Beach Road the food is fantastic and with so many options, whether you’re in the mood for a pizza, want to share some tapas or want a full three course meal, they will have you covered. If you’re around on a Sunday then make sure you book in for one of their delightful roasts, we’ve had a few and they’ve always hit the spot. The tapas style bar bites feature something for everyone, try the ham hock and pea terrine, the chips with melted Reblochon and pancetta or the smoked mackerel pate with sourdough toast. . . So good! On Wednesdays they offer 50% off pizzas and their pizzas are cooked to perfection, they have a thin crispy base and are topped with a variety of different ingredients, some authentic, others like the Sweet Potato and Butternut Squash are more modern. If you have a sweet tooth and want to finish off with a dessert, then fear not as their sticky syrup pudding with toffee sauce is divine!

Cocktails on the terrace with gorgeous sea views

For those that prefer to finish the meal with an alcoholic dessert in a liquid form, check out their gin and cocktail menu. They claim to have the largest selection of gins in Newquay and with over 30 to choose from and 20 different tonics you will hopefully be able to find your dream combination. Between 5.00pm – 7.00pm take advantage of 12 Beach Roads Happy Hour on drinks getting two cocktails or a bucket of five Coors Light’s for £10.00. If you aren’t a fan of spirits, take your pick from their extensive list of Wines, Ciders and Beers.

Not only do they have the food and drink covered but they also provide the entertainment. Throughout the year they host a range of events including DJ’s, acoustic sessions, music events and comedy nights. As day goes into night the atmosphere changes completely, 12 Beach Road transforms from a quiet relaxed restaurant into a bustling bar and the dance floor fills with people enjoying their night.
